Caring for our Local Environment

As a whole school this year we worked in collaboration with Patrickswell tidy towns committee to identify and discuss local environmental issues. We examined a number of ways in which the local environment could be improved or enhanced. We realised that there is a personal and community responsibility for taking care of our local environment and implemented numerous strategies to help protect and enhance the community of Patrickswell.

Team Limerick Clean Up

Firstly we realised that litter is an issue and did our bit to pick up litter in our area. Thanks to Team Limerick Clean Up, we were able to pick up the litter safely using protective glove, pickers and bags.

Flowers for our Fairy Garden

Patrickswell Tidy Towns Committee came up with wonderful idea to create our very own Fairy Garden for families to visit. They decorated the garden with beautiful paintings. The children of Patrickswell NS got involved by creating their own beautiful flowers for the garden made out of repurposed bottle tops. Our children have loved visiting this magical garden which they were a part of creating!

Once schools reopened we were able to get every single child in the school involved repurposing old, used bottles. We loved learning how we can turn something that we thought of as ugly trash into something beautiful. We’re looking forward to seeing our flower mural that will be put on display in our local community soon. Stay tuned!
