Language learning enables children to understand the world around them and to communicate effectively with others. Communication takes many forms, from the non-verbal and verbal to print-based and digital texts. This is why the English and Irish Curriculum is broken up into 3 strands; Oral Language, Reading and Writing and Teanga ó Bhéal, Léitheoireacht and Scríbhneoireacht in Irish.
