Maths Week 2021 – Halloween themed Shape and Space activities

Miss Noonan’s Class has great fun doing Halloween themed maths activities as part of their Aistear time. They made patterns using different colours and toys, created 2D shape pumpkins and witches and coloured coded their 2D shape pumpkins. Well done guys, lots of lovely art made with the help of maths!

Ms. Brennan’s Class also enjoyed Halloween themed maths activities during Aistear. Children played 2D shape games on the ipads using Khan Academy Kids app. They made 2D shapes on their pegboards. They drew 2D shapes by counting 2 digit numbers in order and joining the dots. Once they joined the dots their 2D Spooky Shape was revealed. Check out their Spooky Shape Monsters.

2nd and 3rd Class created an Ancient Egyptian scene by drawing an equilateral triangle shaped pyramid. They then created tangram mummies by joining triangle and quadrilateral shapes. Check out their amazing art work below! They also went on a 2D shape maths trail in their school.

th Class used their measuring and shape and space skills to draw and design a 2D shape pumpkin.

Maths Trails

Throughout the year, classes participated in maths trails around the school and in the local area.

Table Toppers

Table Toppers was a roaring success once again this year. Three finalists from each class competed against one another to become the overall finalist of their class and compete in the finals. Children really worked hard to develop their rapid responses to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division questions, well done to everyone involved. All finalists received an Easter egg for their marvellous maths skills. Massive thanks to Mr. O’Connor for organising and Ms. Noonan for being such a great time keeper!
