Music is for children from junior infants to sixth class. Children are introduced to music reading and writing, to song singing and to playing classroom instruments.

The Music curriculum has three interrelated strands:

  • Listening and Responding
  • Performing
  • Composing.

Listening and Responding

2nd and 3rd Class read the story ‘The Magic Harp’. They learned about the building blocks of music as well as listened and responded to some songs on the harp.

They also listened to O Mio Babbino Caro, Opera music. They responded by writing and extract and presenting to the class how the music made them feel.

Performing

Children in Senior Infants and 1st Class explored music literacy. They learned that different notes make different sounds. They explored the Kids Piano app on the ipads and practiced performing the tune of ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’.
