First Holy Communion 2021 Update

Hi all,

I hope that you are all well. A letter from Bishop Brendan Leahy was received by the Parish about the celebration of  First Holy Communion in the Diocese of Limerick. The letter contained the following paragraph…

“many will be asking about arrangements for Confirmation/First Communions. Obviously, any arrangement we put in place will always be subject to public health guidelines and so always subject to change. I spoke with the Moderators of Pastoral Units on Friday. What emerged is that, taking into account what we’ve been told so far about vaccination etc. it is best to agree that across the Diocese we won’t celebrate Confirmation/First Communion before July 1st. Parishes can arrange ceremonies for dates from July 1st onwards.”

Therefore, the provisional date that we had picked at the end of June is not allowed for the First Holy Communion in the Patrickswell Parish. I have had discussions about a new date with Fr Cussen and we have both agreed that the First Holy Communion last year in September worked well. Therefore, at the present time, I can only confirm that the new date will be in September and I will have the exact date by the end of the week. Of course you will all be informed then. This will hopefully mean that more people can attend the ceremony and will give time for more people to be vaccinated hopefully.

I will be in touch in due course,

Take care,

David Bulfin
